Physical Accessibility

Espace NAPAGA is a vibrant, engaged, and inclusive place.

As a recognized museum institution, a leading tourist attraction in Gaspésie, a heritage site of importance, and an active member of its community, we consider physical accessibility to be an essential component of our mission and make it a priority.

Although certain constraints related to heritage classification, archaeological interest, and the site’s natural configuration (terrain, vegetation, archaeological heritage) limit accessibility, our team strives to make it safe, welcoming, and accessible to as many people as possible.

Several areas are accessible to all:

  • Main reception and ticket office
  • Exhibition pavilion and bistro
  • Camping reception
  • Third beach entrance
  • Showers and restrooms

Trails and Outdoor Exhibitions

The forest trails are not fully adapted for strollers or wheelchairs. Outdoor temporary exhibitions follow a non-paved, partially levelled path of about 1 km. In addition, these circuits are only partially lit for evening visits.

  • Fantöm: The Hunt: this virtual reality experience requires the use of both hands to operate the detection goggles.
  • URA: A Celebration of Water: this immersive interpretation trail follows a seaside and forest route. One station is not accessible due to stairs, but a headset is available to view the experience at that location. All other stations are equipped with access ramps.
  • The English at the Conquest!: this escape game takes place in a fisherman’s cabin, with ground-level access except for a two-inch wooden threshold.

Hippocampe Wheelchair Loan

To promote accessibility, Espace NAPAGA offers, free of charge and upon the reservation, a Hippocampe wheelchair. This all-terrain three-wheel model is designed for use on sand, making it easier to access the beach, some trails, and several exhibition areas.

Kéroul Recognition

We pay particular attention to welcoming people with reduced mobility. Although certain constraints related to heritage classification, archaeological interest, and the site’s natural configuration (terrain, vegetation, archaeological heritage) limit accessibility, most criteria of accessible tourism are met.

In recognition of these efforts, Kéroul — the reference organization for accessible tourism in Québec — has awarded Espace NAPAGA the “partially accessible” rating.

For more information, consult Espace NAPAGA’s accessibility profile on keroul.qc.ca.

Kéroul evaluates tourist establishments according to three levels of accessibility. These ratings clearly identify the degree of access for people with reduced mobility.
