A lighthouse maritime seigneury under the French regime<\/h2>\t\t\t\t\t

This permanent exhibit in our open-air museum reveals the daily lives of the inhabitants of the Grand-Pabos seigneury in the 18th century, under the French regime. It traces the major stages of the investigation led by archaeologist Pierre Nadon, who was able to reconstruct our ancestors\u2019 way of life from the remains of the past.<\/p>\n

Follow the trail and the daily life of these Gasp\u00e9 fishermen and discover the importance of dried salted cod, as well as quiaude, a traditional Gasp\u00e9 soup prized by connoisseurs.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t

The King Brothers Mill: a Gasp\u00e9 first in the industrial era<\/h2>\t\t\t\t\t

Thanks to its privileged location at the mouth of two major rivers, the Bourg de Pabos site carved out a place for itself in the timber industry at the turn of the 1900s, with the region\u2019s first sawmill. Visit the ruins of the mill, operated by the King Brothers, and discover artifacts from Chandler\u2019s early industrial era.<\/p>\n

Learn how the timber industry revived the Gasp\u00e9 economy in the 20th century, an industry that profoundly affected the community and left a scar that is still evident on the landscape with the closure of its successor, the \u201cLa Gasp\u00e9sia\u201d pulp and paper mill, in 1999.<\/p>\n
